These are some of our recommendations for great ambient music. None of this could be mistaken for light New Age music. This is the dark ambient music. Perfect saturnine mood-setting music.
Many of these are also the type of cd that sounds better after each listen. Most of these recommendations are drumless ambient 'music' - the kind you listen to in the dark.
Dogon - Notdunjusta 2xCD
This is one of the all time greatest ambient / collage / strange samplings bands ever! Came across their first CD in a budget bin for $1.49 (The Sirius Expeditions) and was hooked ever since. You can probably find MANY sound samples on other sites - the samples may not show enough of their true greatness though. Unfortunately they only have this and their 1st CD. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!!!

An awesome double CD set - there is a 2 CD version and a 4 CD version of this. The 2 in this set are CD1 - Mystic Chords and Sacred Spaces and CD2 - Labyrinth. CD3 is called Recent Future, CD4 is called Piece of Infinity. This set has 2 different flavors, the 1st CD is more of an spacey ambient trip. CD2 sounds more new age nature ambient. Neither CD in this set has any sudden LOUD drums, or screeching sounds to spoil the floating ambience. CD set is a soft cover foldout.

PERFECTION! 1 track, over 70 min long of pure ambient. This is the kind of CD you play at night before you go to bed. Play it in surround sound and drift away. The sounds flow and change so subtly that you aren't bored. Listen to this when you are tired and you will be asleep before the CD is over. No hidden LOUD spots to ruin the mood. Highly recommended.

An AMAZING 3 CD set in the Immersion series. 3 tracks, one per CD - First Light - Sleep Chamber - Still. Runs a total of 222 minutes. Very light ambient with no drums or beats. This one is the most recommended in the series.
