September 2011 – The dark and calm elements that make a typical autumn a sad and contemplative season also make it a gentle, warm and inviting time of the year. Imagine if you could listen to music that could perfectly capture that subtle melancholy wrapped in pure beauty. The music you would imagine is the new six song CD by Friends of Alice Ivy titled ‘In the Gloaming’.
The music is a slow and spiritual sounding gothic music, which brings to mind Black Tape for a Blue Girl but written and played with much more passion, perfection and fluid songwriting. From the first track, Song of Somnus, which could possibly be the saddest first track on any CD I’ve ever heard, you are instantly taken away to a place of soft and silent love. It has that all alone end of the world quality. This feeling flows throughout the remaining five tracks.
The beautiful vocals of Kylie paired with the music by Amps take you to an emotional state of free-flowing calmness, something very few musicians can do throughout an entire set of songs.
The air is cold, the sun is gone…
